The four landvættir are regarded as the protectors of the four quarters of Iceland: the dragon (Dreki) in the east, the eagle (Gammur) in the north, and the giant (Bergrisi) in the south. The guardian of the North West of Iceland where Guðbjörg grew up is protected by Griðungur, a large bull. This region has always had a special meaning for her and much of her inspiration for her jewellery comes from this part of Iceland.
