ALVÖR
ALVÖR COLLECTION
Geometric forms, open patterns, sharp and soft. This is a description that suits ALVÖR well.
It glides up fingers, swings in ears and needs space on the neck and hand. It is on the large side but at the same time possesses strength and lightness, not unlike armour from the past, which also had the role of protection.
The idea for ALVÖR is inspired by the origins of the Icelandic people. We are familiar with our roots, and nature plays a big role in our lives. Human habitation signs shed light on history, are testimonies of the past and show us how our immediate environment has developed.
Cultural heritage is the key to protecting our sense of self.
In Bolungarvík, you will find a renovated fishing station from the age of row boats. Ósvör consists of 19th-century fishing huts, a salt house, a paved fish drying area and a drying shed; history is in every step in this unique place. I find the salt houses and drying sheds of the old days fascinating, as well as the history of how fish was processed, hung up and dried by the sea.
The shape of the mountain and the fishing hut echoes beautifully in the landscape, where the combination of houses and the surrounding landscape makes one appreciate the connection between society and traditions.
"The natural beauty of the Westfjords is great, and they are very dear to me.
Growing up there, with these magnificent mountains, history, landscapes and contrasts in nature all around me–, has given me a lot of inspiration in the design of the jewellery line ALVÖR.
This is where my roots and the roots of my ancestors are." - Guðbjörg (The designer).
