Corporate Social Responsibility
When you shop at Aurum, you can be confident that you're dealing with a company that demonstrates high standards of environmental responsibility, community involvement, and integrity.
Eluxe Awards are the world's first ever accolades for excellence in the sustainable luxury market.
Here are some of reasons we were named the Eluxe Jewellery Brand of the Year in 2020.
Company philosophy
Aurum stands for Ambition, Understanding, Responsibility, Unity and Mindfulness.
Aurum places great emphasis on Ambition through our design, product development, quality and customer care.
We show Understanding of the needs of our clients and customers and with respect and empathy, we are able to be helpful and flexible.
We show Responsibility throughout Aurum by developing a positive and respectable working environment that encourages collaboration and cooperation between employees. Aurum sources materials from certified fair trade companies and provides environmentally friendly packaging for our clients and customers.
Aurum displays Unity with our community by supporting charities with short and long-term projects.
Aurum is an equal opportunities company and encourages Mindfulness and a prejudice-free environment where everyone has a voice.
Sustainability
Sourcing
We have been sourcing only recycled and re-refined precious metals for the past 15 years.
We source only lab-grown diamonds from suppliers who are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council, which certifies fine jewellery product manufacturers and suppliers for responsible ethical, social, and environmental practices throughout their operations.
Packaging
Our very special paper packaging is made out of „saa Oaoer“ or Mulberry Paper which is the best fibre of the Mulberry tree. Collecting the fibre does not interfere with the ecosystem as not a single tree has to be cut down. Only the leaves are used while the tree continues growing.
Energy use
Our production is entirely based in Iceland. Iceland generates 100% of its energy from renewable sources (roughly 73% hydropower and 27% geothermal power).
Carbon offsets
We mitigate the carbon emitted when we ship orders to customers around the world by fundraising in aid of TreeSisters, a UK-based non profit dedicated to tropical reforestation. Under their "Company Forest" program, Aurum donates $1 for each online order, which covers the approximate cost of planting 2 trees. We also offer our customers the option of donating to TreeSisters during the online checkout, and we will match your donation up to $5 per order.
More from TreeSisters: TreeSisters is an invitation to everyone to do as much radical good as they can for the planet. Our global network of treesisters is transforming both lives and landscapes in extraordinary ways. TreeSisters offers unique global programs that focus on encouraging women's leadership, Nature-connection, and significant behaviour change as we make the shift from being consumers to restorers. TreeSisters is funding the restoration of environments, biodiversity and communities within more than 10 major ecosystems around the global Tropics, through a diverse portfolio of vetted, trusted reforestation projects and in the process, planting millions of trees. Join us in making ecological restoration the new norm! www.treesisters.org.
Aurum continues to seek ways to reduce our environmental impact in all aspects of our business.
Community
We have collaborated with several non-profit organizations to create designs which support their fundraising.
Bond Collection
The inspiration for the Bond Collection are the bonds between people, intimacy and love. Profits from this collection go to support an Icelandic charity called Göngum saman (Walk Together) which disburses grants for valuable research into breast cancer prevention and treatment.
Forget-me-Not Collection
The Forget-Me-Not Collection is designed in collaboration with the Forget-Me-Not support fund, which aims to help parents who have lost children during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly after birth. The forget-me-not flower is found all over Iceland, both in populated areas and in the wild. The jewelry line gives people the opportunity to support the charity and to own, or give, something beautiful and tangible. Profits from this collection are donated to the Forget-Me-Not support fund.
Collaboration with Bleika slaufan (2019)
In 2019 we did a special collaboration with the Icelandic Cancer Society ("Bleika slaufan"). AURUM was chosen to design a special "ribbon" necklace for breast cancer awareness month. The limited-edition collection consisted of 200 pieces in total, spread amongst 3 variations (two in sterling silver, and the third in gold-plated silver). All sales from the collection were donated to "Bleika slaufan."
Collaboration with Sigga Heimis (2018)
Sigga Heimis's glass heart is the inspiration behind the Heart of Gold, a limited-edition necklace. Sigga Heimis, a prominent Icelandic designer, created a glass organ series in collaboration with the Corning Museum of Glass to raise awareness of organ donation. The full glass organs series includes lungs, brains, eyeballs, blood cells and many other objects. All sales went to support an Icelandic charity called Neistinn, a foundation for children with heart defects.
